19th Century Atelier: Historic Artist Retreat

This three day artist retreat is an opportunity for artists to learn 19th century techniques and methods in the unique and inspiring setting of Historic Eastfield Village. Participants will learn to draw the figure as done in the 19th century, both indoor nude modeling and outdoor modeling in period costume. Artists will also enjoy En Plein Air oil painting, cloud painting–weather-dependent, and landscape painting with watercolor or gouache highlights. 

Day 1: Introductions and Overview.

Lesson: Ink drawing, Drawing with chalk

Day 2: Painting in plein air. Outdoor/indoor depending on weather

Lesson: Figure Drawing – outdoor/indoor depending on weather

Day 3: Painting in plein air. Outdoor/indoor depending on weather

Lesson: Figure Drawing – outdoor/indoor depending on weather

All workshops begin at 9:30am on the first day of the program.

All participants must be 18+ years old.

Instructors

Lance Petersen

Lance Petersen is active with Riverfront Artists of Albany, N.Y. Having earned a BA in Art from the University of Oregon, Lance then became an illustrator with the Oregon State Museum of Anthropology. Figurative art is his speciality.

Deborah Bayly

Deborah Bayly is a professional artist and teacher. She works in Plein Air and Studio landscape painting using oils.  She has won two Best in Show Plein Air awards from the Hyde Collection in Glens Falls, N.Y., the Keeseville, NY Plein Air Juried Competition and the Cooperstown National Art Association’s New York Regional.  She has been teaching painting and drawing since 2008 at the Arts center of the Capital Region in Troy, New York and holds a Master’s Degree in Art.
