In this two-day class students will learn to construct a workable 18th-century-style bread toaster for use at an open hearth fireplace. Techniques will include drawing, splitting, punching, twisting, tenoning, riveting, and will be geared towards beginners, though prior metal-working experience will be helpful.

All workshops begin at 9:30am on the first day of the program.

All participants must be 18+ years old.

Instructors

Olof Jansson

A life-long maker, Olof Jansson has been a blacksmith and tinsmith for over 30 years. His work appears in historic sites throughout New York’s Mohawk River Valley and beyond. He studied with Walt Fleming of Balston Lake, NY and mentored with Victor Zubatiuk of Cornwall, Ontario. Over the years he has continued to reproduce commissioned items for local historic sites, historic homes, and re-enactors, and is currently developing a new shop space at the historic Kilts Farm in Stone Arabia, New York. Olof has taught at Eastfield for many years.
